Family-Friendly Parliaments
Calls for more family-friendly assemblies, specifically those able to accommodate representatives who are pregnant, postpartum, or have young children, have become urgent in the last decade, as a mini baby boom in Canada’s federal parliament and the provinces has called the inclusivity of legislatures into question. This research asks not just what needs to change to accommodate families, but more fundamental question about how Canadian legislatures must evolve to be the inclusive, democratic institutions that embody our collective commitment to democracy in this country.
